PRESS RELEASE

Katerina Zacharopoulou

About 6'

November 15, 2006 - January 13, 2007

Katerina Zacharopoulou was born in Athens. Her CV includes solo and group shows, educational programmes for Contemporary Art and television shows about art. Works of hers are part of private collections in Greece and abroad.  This is the second solo exhibition of the artist at the gallery Bernier/Eliades.

The main piece of this show “about 6΄” is a dialogue between the Self and its Heteronym. A person converses with herself and through this invitation for dialogue frees herself, without being aware of it. Αt the same time, though, this person knows that the Other is part of oneself while the restlessness which comes out of their dialogue is the result of their difficult coexistence.

The wall-pieces, concentrate the notion of Photography and Design as a composition and assimilation of the Real and the Imaginary.

The show also presents a handmade book with drawings and notes for the installation “about 6΄“, as also sentences by Fernando Pessoa from “The Book of Restlessness”.

Katerina Zacharopoulou in this show creates an idiosyncratic situation of conversation-interview with herself.
This experiment would have never been attempted had she not been encouraged on one hand by the readings of Fernando Pessoa, and on the other by the conversations she had with various artists during the last twelve years for the needs of her television shows.

This project reflects her continuous practice with dialogues and her hundred-hours exposure in front of the camera. This work is mainly a text- portrait of herself and the Other in a simultaneous statement of psychological conflicts.
The roles of the Self and the Other balance on a deceptively detached dialogue which expresses the need for unity.
